Today we read The Wretched Stone by Chris Van Allsburg. We made some good connections to our own lives and talked about the use of symbols in stories. Ask your child about what the stone represents. Our At Home Reading homework begins today. Your child was given a lavendar paper for you to sign that explains the assignments. This sheet is also linked on Lex-Connect. Our vocabulary words this week will focus on synonyms.

I have a book in my collection by Chris Van Allsburg. It is The Witches Broom. I admire a writer who is also an illustrator, as is Chris Van Allsburg. The illustrations in the book that I have appear to be lithography. I would be happy to read this book to the class and share my knowledge about the processes involved in lithography. It would be most appropriate near the end of October.
