Today I shared with my students about a wonderful writing conference that I attended over the weekend that was led by one of my favorite authors, Sue Monk Kidd.  She spent 3 hours talking about getting ideas for writing and 3 hours talking about the craft of writing.  It was wonderful, and I gained some valuable ideas we can use in the classroom to improve our own writing.  One thing she stressed was the importance of a good lead.  Ask your child about Sue’s suggestion of how she learns more about writing good first sentences!  We had a mini-lesson  today about good leads, and we looked at the book, Shrek, as a model.  We all enjoyed that story!
