We continued learning about figurative language today.  Hyperbole (exaggeration) was our focus today as we read The Bunyans by Audrey Wood.  Tall tales provide good examples of hyperbole.  Students continued working on their Lt. Governor Writing Contest essays.  Both groups enjoyed a guidance visit from Mrs. Epps either yesterday or today.
Remember that tomorrow is an [...]

Happy Thanksgiving!

November 21st, 2006 · No Comments

The wintry weather caught us a little by surprise!  We enjoyed reading A Turkey for Thanksgiving by Eve Bunting today.  We noticed several examples of figurative language and appreciated the surprise ending.  Students began a new writing project today, an essay for the Lt. Governor’s Writing Contest.  After reviewing the four areas of the PACT [...]

I apologize for the lapse in posting.  The site went down and lost its template, so I was unable to get it to open in Explorer.  It’s been a busy week!  I was out on Monday on a trip to visit universities in Pennsylvania and Virginia with my daughter, who is preparing to apply for [...]

Wednesday (The Day After Halloween!)

November 1st, 2006 · No Comments

Surprisingly, everyone came in relatively calmly this morning. During Morning Meeting we enjoyed hearing about everyone’s adventures. During ELA students practiced reading their digital story texts several times as they looked through their digital illustrations. Then we were able to begin recording narrations. This will be a slow process, but the [...]
