It finally began to feel like winter today! At recess time the wind chill was 31 degrees,
so we were required to have indoor recess. Today after reviewing spelling words and the reading response journals from last night, we had a lesson about distinguishing between fact and opinion. An important skill for information literacy is the ability to make judgments about the texts we read. Does the text come from a valid source? Is it fact, opinion, or a mixture of both? Students completed a short online activity to practice applying this reading strategy. After that students were introduced to a new Web 2.0 Internet tool, diigo. Diigo is an online social bookmarking site. Favorite sites are tagged with key words and can be shared with others. We set up a class diigo account. After searching for useful sites on specific landform topics, students learned how to tag and save interesting sites. We will use this tool when we begin our research projects. Bosch’s students will have Math MAP testing tomorrow morning. Foxworth’s students will take the test on Friday morning.
Come to Family Literacy Night on Friday, February 2nd at RBE from 5:45-8:00. A free spaghetti supper will be served in the RBE cafe from 5:45-6:20. From 6:30-8:00, many exciting South Carolina literacy and art activities will be offered in concurrent sessions for you and your children.
BRRRR!
